Fun. Right?

Some favorite things. Whenever I get around to it...

Dawes

My good buddy Dusty passed this along to me. I can only hope the recorded version is this good, too!

Four Tet

A killer background track to reality.

On another note, Smile Around the Face was the first Four Tet song I heard, and I think it's actually the best wake-up-in-the-morning song I've ever heard.

Julian Casablancas

Just heard some pretty killer new music... Julian Casablancas! This is just a preview teaser for his new album. This is worth a listen though. He is the lead singer for teh band "the Strokes", and this is his new solo project... Keep your ears open for this guy!

Follow Me

This post isn't for the music...

An old High school friend (Peter Oliver) just posted this up on Facebook... Never thought I'd really pull something from Facebook to post here.... but to be honest, I've had a few on here now from friends sharing music! Whatever works!

I'm not so much in to the song here, I mean its alright, but the music video... So graphically intense and based on a sweet concept! Makes me wish I knew how to use AfterEffects better than I do now. Sad smiley face.

Mopedin' Around

A couple buddies of mine put this little video together after they picked up an old Honda Moped... Pretty solid work for their efforts (and the song is pretty awesome too)!

I know I know I know I know I know I know...

Bill Withers singing one of his most famous songs...Ain't no Sunshine. Bill Withers has to be one of the most covered artists out there... Okay maybe not, but there are a TON of people who have at the very least recorded a crappy version of them singing one of his songs to upload to youtube or myface or wherever else no one goes to watch them... Anyways, point remains, Bill's good at what he does.

Some more from Bill Withers...

The Big Pink

Just heard this... had to share!

The band is called Velvet. Pretty new as far as I'm aware...

I'm not sure how I feel about the video yet... Its got some really cool editing and some great shots, but it kinda felt like I should have been listening to some heavy metal music video instead of this slower, building indie tune. It's growing on me though... but I still wish the end wasn't an edit every 5-15 frames or less!

Brother Ali

My buddy Jim posted this up where I could see it and well... I liked it. So here it is. Brother Ali is some pretty decent stuff and this is one of my favorite songs of his... from his album, "Champion".

Enjoy!

Larytta

Strange concept for a music video... pretty awesome, but really strange. Larytta is good to listen to late at night or when doing homework... I don't like to listen to much music with lyrics while Working on things, because it tends to distract me... is that true for anyone else?

Anyways, I skipped school today so I thought I'd do something remotely productive...

Free your mind and your ass will follow.

Funkadelic.

Back from 1971... a long jam that drives a pretty simple point that I sometimes need to remind myself to do.

Let the Beat Build

Nyle "Let The Beat Build" from Nyle on Vimeo.

I've always been a fan of single-shot videos, and this had got to be one of the coolest one's I've ever seen. Instead of trying to sync it all up in post, Nyle and his crew just decided to do the whole thing live and tape it while they performed it. Amazing.

Moondoggies

I was making a note of this song on my list of future music for the blog today when I realized I had already written it down sometime before! Guess that means I should probably just post it, eh?

Here is another one of my favorites from the Moondoggies leadman Kevin Murphy...

Philidelphia

Bruce Springsteen won an oscar for this song. It was used in the movie Philidelphia. Tom hanks also won an Oscar for his performance in it. Good movie.

Collective Soul

From the album, 'Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid'.

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic lately, if you haven't noticed...

Change.

Seems as though some things are vastly changing in my life, but really... they aren't. Maybe they have changed from day to day, but in the big scheme of things, I'm still on the same path. I'm still in the same situation I've been in.

Things have changed, though. I've changed my mind; I've changed my thought process. I've learned more and grown greater. Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons... sometimes we just get slapped in the face with them, but more often than not - to really learn from life - we have to dig for it... analyze the situation to create a greater understanding of it within yourself.

Obviously... I haven't been doing any of this recently.

Jazz

Back when I was trying to update this thing daily, I was finding new music that I wanted to highlight faster than I could get it up here. So I started making a list of songs and bands that I wanted to share...

I left myself a note in that list to share some jazz every now and then. Just beneath that note, I reminded myself of this little piece...

Link: Oscar Peterson - You Look Good To Me

I stumbled upon this song while working on a video about Ray Brown (the bassist playing here) for the University of Idaho Jazz Fest. Oscar Peterson was obviously a very skilled jazz pianist, and Ray is a great Bassist (though his solo is tough to hear). It really doesn't come across here as well as I'd hoped, but I still think its a great showing!

The Jazz Fest is something I look forward to every year now. To say that I stood on the same stage as Bobby McFerrin, Dr. John, Monty Alexander, and a handful of other greats is an awesome privilege! Here is some more jazz from artists I've been lucky enough to meet and tape...

...I guess that is enough for one night. =)

The Seeds of Night

The Seattle Based Cave Singers with their song The Seeds of Night.

Been a while since I threw anything up. But hey, that's allowed now. I heard this song first on the radio in Seattle, and then it kinda left my mind for a while until I heard it in the background for a new Washington Lottery commercial. That sparked me to find it and share it.

Changing things up...

The Grouch & Eligh ~ All In

Alright, so I failed pretty miserably at the whole 'posting a new song by a new band every day thing' last year. I even tried to cheat by changing the post dates on some of em... too bad you'll never know which ones!

Anyways, I'm tired of being bummed out on this blog and tired of feeling like I shouldn't post anything until I've caught up and finished my original goal. No one is coming to the page anymore (don't blame them, there's nothing new!), and I'm still coming across some pretty damn good music from time to time...

So! From here on, I'll be posting freely whenever I feel the need to share some new music with friends. No more rules preventing me from posting only one thing a day... no more rules preventing me from posting something from the same band twice... no more forced crappy songs just to fill a quota.

With that said, check in from time to time to see what's new! And if there's nothing new, feel free to scroll through the archives and find something worthy of a listen!
