Husker Du: New Day Rising
Typically credited as a hugely influential band to many different genres. I've heard heavy metal, early alternative, indie, and unfortunately even emo all lay claim to them as a huge influence for their sound.
This is my favorite song of theirs... the recorded version is much better.
