The band is called Velvet. Pretty new as far as I'm aware...

I'm not sure how I feel about the video yet... Its got some really cool editing and some great shots, but it kinda felt like I should have been listening to some heavy metal music video instead of this slower, building indie tune. It's growing on me though... but I still wish the end wasn't an edit every 5-15 frames or less!

Seems as though some things are vastly changing in my life, but really... they aren't. Maybe they have changed from day to day, but in the big scheme of things, I'm still on the same path. I'm still in the same situation I've been in.


Things have changed, though. I've changed my mind; I've changed my thought process. I've learned more and grown greater. Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons... sometimes we just get slapped in the face with them, but more often than not - to really learn from life - we have to dig for it... analyze the situation to create a greater understanding of it within yourself.

Obviously... I haven't been doing any of this recently.

Back when I was trying to update this thing daily, I was finding new music that I wanted to highlight faster than I could get it up here. So I started making a list of songs and bands that I wanted to share...


I left myself a note in that list to share some jazz every now and then. Just beneath that note, I reminded myself of this little piece...

I stumbled upon this song while working on a video about Ray Brown (the bassist playing here) for the University of Idaho Jazz Fest. Oscar Peterson was obviously a very skilled jazz pianist, and Ray is a great Bassist (though his solo is tough to hear). It really doesn't come across here as well as I'd hoped, but I still think its a great showing!

The Jazz Fest is something I look forward to every year now. To say that I stood on the same stage as Bobby McFerrin, Dr. John, Monty Alexander, and a handful of other greats is an awesome privilege! Here is some more jazz from artists I've been lucky enough to meet and tape...

Alright, so I failed pretty miserably at the whole 'posting a new song by a new band every day thing' last year. I even tried to cheat by changing the post dates on some of em... too bad you'll never know which ones!

Anyways, I'm tired of being bummed out on this blog and tired of feeling like I shouldn't post anything until I've caught up and finished my original goal. No one is coming to the page anymore (don't blame them, there's nothing new!), and I'm still coming across some pretty damn good music from time to time...

So! From here on, I'll be posting freely whenever I feel the need to share some new music with friends. No more rules preventing me from posting only one thing a day... no more rules preventing me from posting something from the same band twice... no more forced crappy songs just to fill a quota.

I can't remember where I first heard this song... but I think it was in a movie. I really like the simplicity of it. The video goes great with it. It looks just like someones vacation footage or something, but they did a decent job editing it. I've been on this big handheld thing lately... I really like the look and feel it gives to pretty much everything.

Mirah is also from PA.. just like Man Man. I didn't mention that when I wrote about them, but felt it odd that the artists I picked to go back to back were both starting with an M and both from PA.

She's on K records. Pretty good. If I've noticed one thing so far from this project, it's that I've started to enjoy female solo singers a lot more...

Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band is from Seattle. They have never played a show, as you should know by now after watching Technology. They will debut at neumos on the 31st. That is also where they will sell their EP exclusively. So far there are no tracks available for embedding that I know of. When they release a video, which I am sure is in the works, I will update this post to include it.

They worked with Seattle producer Scott Colburn on their first EP. That's pretty big.

This band has my interest... Too bad I can't get to their show.

On to Todd... man, I didn't realize how awesome this guy is! He is one of the cutting edge leaders that you will never know about. He was the producer behind XTC's Skylarking! Which as we all should know was well ahead of its time. He has also worked as a producer for other recognizable big names like Meat Loaf, Bad Religion, Grand Funk Railroad, and the Psychedelic Furs. He had one of the first music videos to be aired on MTV, and he very much embraced the internet. He started a site where he could release his music directly to his fans and cut out the record label. That was back in the mid 90's!

Anyway... he might have a new solo album coming out this summer. I might have to look into that.

This is probably one of my top five favorite songs. This is a bad recording of it... hard to hear the actual depth to the music through this "video", but it's there. I highly recommend finding a way to get this song into your collection.

I found this song by complete chance. I was at the library and had just learned that you could check out ten CD's at once. So, naturally I figured I'd go ahead and bite off way more than I could chew, and decided to try and check out at least ten CD's a week, but do by completely randomly selecting them. The second week was as far as I got, by the way. But anyways, one of the CD's I grabbed in my first visit was a compilation of world music, and this song was on there. Obviously, I ripped it on to my computer and I have listened to it hundreds of times since.

Cee-Lo is the lyricist behind Gnarls Barkley. He was originally a part of the Goodie Mob, too. He's been around for a while, and has collaborated with many of the big names in industry today. His unique voice, flow and style is what keeps people listening.

This is off one of his solo albums. I think the solo albums are better than Gnarls Barkley. They have more consistency with diversity... if that makes sense. It should. Just think about it until it does.

Since that release, I haven't heard much of them, but the other day I heard the tail end of a song off their latest EP "Is Is", and it seemed like they had tightened up their sound a bit.

In any case, for some reason I like this song. Probably because it's pretty simple, but catchy.

As for this video, well, it's a little weird, but I think thats what they were going for. But hey, it's better than the actual video, and it's embeddable.

Erin was the first to expose me to this group, which is Ant (beats) and Slug (lyrics). I think I opened up to them because of the style in which Slug writes and performs... His style incorporates real life experiences about day to day shit in a way that isn't done anywhere else.

I think I heard this song first from some show on fuelTV, which I think is fitting... It sounds like something from a skate/surf/snowboard flick...

I've only heard a few of their other tracks and I have to say this so far is the most impressive.



And speaking of experimenting, I mad some truly awesome experimental brownies today... added a new key ingredient. Turned out better than I thought. That's pretty much all I've got, though...
