Fun. Right?

Some favorite things. Whenever I get around to it...

The Whitest Boy Alive - "Fireworks"

Another from Jessie Biber. It's always fun to swap musical findings with people late at night!

The Black Keys - Tighten Up [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

"But he smells like ranch dressing!"

I love this song and video. It really captures the purpose of life... competition for a mate. haha ;)

State Radio - Keepsake

This song comes recommended from a good friend. I'm starting to trust her taste in music a little more each day! :)

28 November 2010

Keep Shelly in Athens - Cremona Memories

I don't remember how I found this song... but I've been listening to it a ton lately. Interesting tunes for certain!

20 November 2010

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros - Home - Official Video

This group, they produce really good music. My favorite song is 40 Day Dream, but I can't seem to find a video for that. Ah well... This is still great. This song is what launched them into the national spotlight, so to say. They've performed this on Letterman among other places.

Dancing Pigeons 'Ritalin'

This is an AWESOME video using high speed cameras and a killer music track to put you on the edge of your seat (or, at the least, pique your interest as to what the hell is going on).

Gorillaz feat. Snoop Dogg - Welcome to the world of the Plastic Beach

TV on the Radio - DLZ

Congratulations on the mess you made of things;
On trying to reconstruct the air and all that brings.
And oxidation is the compromise you own
But this is beginning to feel like the dog wants her bones
saved

You force your fire then you falsify your deeds
Your methods dot the disconnect from all your creeds
And fortune strives to fill the vacuum that it feeds
But this is beginning to feel like the dog's lost her lead

This is beginning to feel like the long
winded blues of the never
This is beginning to feel like it's curling up slowly
and finding a throat to choke

This is beginning to feel like the long
winded blues of the never
Barely controlled locomotive consuming the picture
and blowing the crows, the smoke

This is beginning to feel like the long
winded blues of the never
Static eplosion devoted to crushing the broken
and shoving their souls to ghost

Eternalised. Objectified.
You set your sights so high.
But this is beginning to feel like
the bolt busted loose from the lever

Never you mind
Death professor
Your structure's fine
My dust is better
Your victim flies so high
All to catch a bird's eye view of who's next

Never you mind
Death professor.
Love is life,
My love is better.
Eyes could be the diamonds
Confused with who's next

Never you mind
Death professor.
Your shocks are fine,
My struts are better.
Your fiction flies so high,
Y'all could use a doctor
Who's sick, who's next?

Never you mind
Death professor.
Electrified, my love is better
It's crystallized, so'm I.
All could be the diamond
Fused with who's next

This is beginning to feel like the dawn of a loser forever

This is beginning to feel like the dawn of a loser forever

This is beginning to feel like the dawn of a loser forever

The Swell Season - Low Rising

Pretty cool video to go along with this. It's kind of silly how rare it is for me to actually watch a complete music video online anymore... with the advent of tabbed browsing my attention span is so short that I'd rather just listen to the music while searching for more instead.

Cat Power - House of the Rising Sun

22 September 2010

Cary Ann Hearst - Hell's Bells

OK GO - White Knuckles

This band has become the king of the one-take video. Here is their latest, which is maybe my favorite so far.

They did this 124 times, 30 of which they made it through all the way. They chose take 72.

14 September 2010

Twilight singers - "Bonnie Brae"

Another song I heard from Rescue Me. This video is cut from scenes from a fire in one episode.

This song and "I Shall Believe" always make me a little emotional. I love it when a song can do that.

10 September 2010

I Shall Believe - Sheryl Crow

I've been watching a lot of Rescue Me lately... It's a very toxic show, and I probably shouldn't be watching it, as again, I see a lot of parallel's between the main character and myself sometimes, but back to the point... LOTS of good music featured in episodes of that. This one included.

22 July 2010

Bruce Hornsby - Mandolin Rain

First heard this -

Then hear this -

Two totally different takes on the song... each make it emote differently.

05 June 2010

Lookbook - Passenger

Heard this band up in Spokane recently... Wish they would've come down here. The audience didn't appreciate them at all. Look for big things from this duo, though. I really dig their sound.

29 March 2010

Where the Hell is Matt?

I remember watching this video years ago, and being incredibly jealous. I thought it was a really cool idea.

17 March 2010

Bansai Tree

Diego Stocco - Music From A Bonsai from Diego Stocco on Vimeo.

My Buddy Nik sent me this link today... pretty cool what people are doing to record music so obscurely these days. I think its pretty interesting how close his mic's have to be to pick up the types of sound he was trying to get.

14 March 2010

The Pixies - In Heaven

I really love Kim Deal singing this song. Not that I don't like Frank Blacks rendition, but... you know.

10 March 2010

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - I'm Loving the Street

This is one of my favorite Bonnie Prince Billy Songs. He's got a very unique sound that I can really appreciate in the midst of everything else.

Counting Down the Hours - Ted Leo and the Pharmacists

I think this was one of the first songs I had liked enough to make a note of when I first started listening to KEXP back in 2004. The group brings a good energy to their tunes, and it makes you want to bop your head a bit.

Always a good thing, I think. Right?

Pavement - Gold Soundz

One of my favorite Pavement songs. This was my summer 2005 anthem. I listened to it over and over again while I delivered pizzas day and night.

I love when songs place you in an exact moment in your past (well, I love it most of the time anyways). That summer was a lot of fun. It had been a pretty bad winter and spring for me, so it was nice to see things turn around. Because of that, this song will always put a smile on my face.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Jesus

Anton Newcombe is one wild man. If you like this band, I'd recommend seeing Dig! The Documentary that follows The Brian Jonestown Massacre and more importantly gives you a peak into Anton's mind and life.

...Hell, even if you don't like them, the film is pretty dang good.

Dan Auerbach: "Heartbroken, In Disrepair"

Guy from the Black Keys releases some solo project stuff... Pretty good!

I don't think I've posted this yet... ?

Billy Ocean - Get out of my dreams get into my car

To honor the Late Corey Haim...

08 March 2010

Nosaj Thing

Muppets do "For What It's Worth"

What a powerful song. You've probably heard it in at least 5 different box office hit movies... and probably hundreds of other places.

This adaptation of it is so great. I move the muppet show --their ability to create meaningful stories out of just about anything doesn't stop short here. This piece is one of my favorite covers they've ever done.

Girlfriends

Jerry Joiner. What a name! This guy is From Pullman Washington, right across the border from me. He calls his project Girlfriends and he's an incredibly talented individual. The intensity and energy he brings to his music is hard to find matched anywhere else. His sound is unique and building, something that most one man bands seem to lack.

He's recorded two albums, one self-titled and the other 'Girlfriends (reverse)' -- where all songs on the original album have been recorded backwards. I'll be trying to get my hands on both as soon as I can.

Here's to hoping Jerry gets noticed soon... he's got the talent to take himself places with his music.

Sera Cahoone - Baker Lake

She's Coming to Birds on a Wire! The New indie folk music fest in Pullman Wa. Can't wait for this event...

Grass Roots - Let's Live For Today

This is Creed's band. From The Office. He's in the striped sweater in the back playing bass. Awesome.

Godspeed You Black Emperor - The Dead Flag Blues

This is the first track on their album 'F# A# (Infinity)'. Listen to any and all of this bands music. Incredibly long songs that you never want to end.

This isn't the full length version... originally this song is 16:28. Yeah. Awesome.

The Long Winters: Cinnamon

White Rabbits - Rudie Fails

Sharam feat. Kid Cudi - She Came Along

The Fucking Eagles

Jim Carroll Band- People Who Died

Great song. I think the first time I heard this song was when I watched the Basketball Diaries. Also a great movie. Weird. Right?

PS: I like the directing error early on in the video... when it cuts to a shot of the floor. Makes me laugh.

Stars - This Charming Man

A pretty great cover of a song originally done by the Smiths.

Grizzly Bear - All We Ask

My favorite comment displayed for this video when I posted it:

"this song goes with anything......i was doped up with the ipod connected to the stereo and my friend was playing a zombie game with the sound affects on and i was just picturing a t rex destroying a city cause of the roars from the zombies and the army was shooting at it from the gun sounds....this is one of the best songs i have ever heard"

Verbatim. haha.

Deer Tick - Smith Hill

Snow Patrol - Set The Fire To The Third Bar

Ryan Adams - Come Pick Me Up

Hoquiam - When On The Beach 1987

Some good local music.

Death From Above 1979 - Romantic Rights

Fucking killer bass. The megaphone part sucks, but I bet it was awesome if you were there.

Also, they have since split up I believe. That also sucks.

Speech Debelle - Spinnin'

I'm From Barcelona - Treehouse

I'm from Barcelona - Oversleeping Smid

The Cure - Close To Me (Acoustic)

The Temptations - I wish it would rain

Blur - On Your Own

Blur fans seem to hate this video... but I think its pretty awesome!

Wanted to share the song "Till The End" but couldn't find it...

The Strokes - You Only Live Once

"Some people think they're always right..."

I love the simplicity of this song. Simple as that.

The Builders and the Butchers - Vampire Lake

Peter Bjorn And John - Young Folks

I tried to post this a long time ago and it wasn't allowing any embedding...

The xx :: Islands

J. Boogie's Dubtronic Science - Le Booty Cinematique

This group has some decent stuff... good to listen to at night while trying to power through those last minute assignments or just doin nothing but surfing... Whatever.

Some other good tracks that I couldn't find are "PPP" and "Together".

Mulatu Astatke - Yegelle Tezeta

So dang good.

From the album 'The Story of Ethio Jazz'

Bob Dylan - It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)

some more Dylan.

Bon Iver - for Emma

From a sad album called For Emma, Forever Ago. Good music to listen to when you feel the need.

Etienne Daho - Week-end à Rome

Sweet 80's video...

Wolf Parade - Language City

LARYTTA - Bauch Amp

So I put this song on my list of music to share a long time ago, but I'm assuming the recorded version was a hell of a lot better.

Fuck it... posting it anyways. Obviously. They at least look like they are having fun playing the music. Plus if you give them a chance and hang in there for a bit, it gets a lot better.

Ludacris - I Do It For Hip-Hop

08 February 2010

04 February 2010

The Kinks - This Time Tomorrow

My friend Kyle can't get this song out of his head. I can see that happening to me if I keep listening to it as much as I've been.

01 February 2010

Owen Pallett: Lewis Takes Action

pretty enjoyable stuff... I love it when people can incorporate a full orchestra!

BOAT - Lately

Seattle Band BOAT bringing some great energy to KEXP. Just like the Host says, looks like they are having a blast playing music.

Hope it stays that way for them.

26 January 2010

Dead Man's Bones: Dead Man's Bones

Incredibly catchy. Right?

From Ryan Goslings Band, Dead Man's Bones. Awesome.

Minotaur Shock - Muesli

This was one of the first songs I wanted to put on the blog, but no one had made a video for it, and by the time someone had, I had kind of given up for a while on this whole thing.

Anyways, this is one of my favorite little tunes, and helps to put a smile on my face usually. Enjoy!

Deep Sea Diver - Hangin' On

Featuring my man Jon MANsen in the snuggie.

25 January 2010

San Francisco Trolley Cars

Delta Spirit - Trashcan from La Blogotheque on Vimeo.

The Zombies-Time Of The Season

a classic rock favorite.

Indigo Girls - Closer To Fine

Some girls gettin down with a bit of a country twang. This video came out in 1989, though if all of their clothes were just a little bit tighter, I would've thought it came out yesterday.

I heard this song again on the soundtrack of some movie I recently watched. Can't remember what movie. Oh well.

Camera shy. Just a little...

I thought it was pretty silly. I wish I could show this video to everyone I have to interview right before they see the camera.

Think it'd work??

22 January 2010

The Heavy - How You Like Me Now?

What a great Jam! Watched this on Letterman the other night... first time I've EVER seen/heard of Dave asking a musical guest to play more!

He was really in to it... rightfully so, I'd say.

Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons - Born Again

Dusty showed this to me. Really good stuff.

13 January 2010

Amazing Grace

I just about cried. literally, one of the most emotional versions of the song I've ever heard. My thanks to KEXP for continually sharing things like this with the world.

11 January 2010

Blind

I completely overlooked this song for a long long time. I regret that a little, but not really, because I think you find songs as life trudges along and you come to a point where the timing is right. Needless to say, I've been listening to this song almost non-stop lately.

If you're not in the mood for this song, come back to it. It's long, but it fits in time. Be ready and willing to listen heavily for 7 minutes.
