Langhorne Slim: In the Midnight

Langhorne Slim: In the Midnight

First heard about Langhorne Slim by listening to this exact song on a KEXP Podcast. It was the first podcast I had ever downloaded and it puts me right back to a point in my past again...

Anyway, I really liked the twang style that Langehorn Slim channeled in the music... It's definitely a nice change of pace in a room full of familiar faces.

Depeche Mode: John the Revelator

Depeche Mode: John the Revelator

I'm not a huge depeche mode fan, but I like this song...

I especially like the video, which is unofficial by the way... But it tells the story of how I feel about Bush sometimes.

My English teacher made us watch this and write a bit about what we thought about it... Tuned me in to this band.

The main reason I thought to post up this video was because of a book that was released today written by the former press secretary of the Bush administration Scott McClellan, telling about how he was told to brighten up the image of the president and specifically the war...

Watch this video with Chris Mathews interviewing Scott's Predecessor Ari Fleisher where they are discussing the book...

Minus Story: Stitch Me Up

Minus Story: Stitch Me Up

Heard this today while I was listening to KUOI radio, UI's radio station. it's a much better station than I anticipated... I want to start a show of my own there maybe...

Fugazi: Waiting Room

Fugazi: Waiting Room

This song is off the album "13 Songs". That album was pretty much lived in my CD player the winter of my junior year of high school. I do that a lot... listen to an entire album over and over a bunch during random periods of my life, but its never on purpose.

Anyways, It's always pretty cool to be put right back into the past in exact moments just by listening to music. Add that to the list of reasons I love this stuff...

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum: Widening Eye

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum: Widening Eye

This is about as metal as I get for the most part...

I am too tired to tell the story of this band... but if you like them, read about them on wikipedia here.

Dizzee Rascal: Fix Up, Look Sharp

Dizzee Rascal: Fix Up, Look Sharp

Ratatat did a remix of this song and I really enjoyed it. Potentially more so than this original, but I can't really say that and be certain...

Portishead: We Carry On

Portishead: We Carry On

They're back! After taking a bit of a hiatus from releasing new completely new material for ten years or so... they are back! Their latest release is titled "Third" and hit the stores in late April.

**and yeah, I really did let it slip for a full week. Shit.**

Beck: Nausea

Erin is again credited with introducing me to the music of Beck. He deserves a weekend of his own...

Nina Simone: Sinnerman

Nina Simone: Sinnerman

This is probably one of my top five favorite songs. This is a bad recording of it... hard to hear the actual depth to the music through this "video", but it's there. I highly recommend finding a way to get this song into your collection.

I found this song by complete chance. I was at the library and had just learned that you could check out ten CD's at once. So, naturally I figured I'd go ahead and bite off way more than I could chew, and decided to try and check out at least ten CD's a week, but do by completely randomly selecting them. The second week was as far as I got, by the way. But anyways, one of the CD's I grabbed in my first visit was a compilation of world music, and this song was on there. Obviously, I ripped it on to my computer and I have listened to it hundreds of times since.

Constantines: Do What You Can Do

A comment found on the youtube page says something to the tune of "this song would be awesome to see live".

I agree.

SixToo: Jackals and Vipers in Envy of Man - Parts 1-3

SixToo: Jackals and Vipers in Envy of Man - Parts 1-3

Apparently Erin wanted to comment on the whole bands with numbers sucking to say that there are a lot more bands with numbers that don't suck. He showed me these guys yesterday and mentioned a few others. You might see them later on...

For this album, the beats sampled are brought in from his live performances... so what you're listening to are samples resampled from a live show worked into these tracks. Pretty sick...

Cee-Lo: Sometime

Cee-Lo Green: Sometime

Cee-Lo is the lyricist behind Gnarls Barkley. He was originally a part of the Goodie Mob, too. He's been around for a while, and has collaborated with many of the big names in industry today. His unique voice, flow and style is what keeps people listening.

This is off one of his solo albums. I think the solo albums are better than Gnarls Barkley. They have more consistency with diversity... if that makes sense. It should. Just think about it until it does.

Here's another track of his you should check out that I really like. There is a video for this song, but it's un-embeddable. This track is called "Getting Grown"

I started listening to these guys my senior year of high school. This album, Danse Macabre, is still my favorite release of theirs.

Taylor showed this video to me the other today. This video must have taken so much time! It's really good, and I absolutely mean that. REALLY GOOD.

Sunnybrook: Blooming

Sunnybrook: Blooming

I pulled pretty much everything I know about this group from gorillavsbear.net I have no idea how I found that blog, but its way cooler than mine... whoever is behind it has a much better musical knowledge than I.

Anyways, Sunnybrook is just one guy out of Denton Texas. I like his sound. If you can't tell, I've been into the calm, mellow electronic music lately. This fits right in with it's own little niche.

Another track you should check out by Sunnnybrook is called "Big Waving Hands"

I like that track more than blooming. Its simple, not perfect... but it just flows.

Kavinsky: 1986

Kavinsky: 1986

This song, album, and video are all in reference to his car wreck that happened in... you guessed it. 1986!

By the way, this would be the 100th post on this blog. No repeats. No Need.

Feels pretty good to have stuck it out this far.

White Rabbits: The Plot

White Rabbits: The Plot

I heard these guys just the other day and obviously liked what I heard. Simple catchy beats get me every time.

Primal Scream: Movin On Up

Primal Scream: Movin On Up

These guys have been around for a long time... and their sound has changed many times over the years, but thats a good thing I think... at least in this case. One major cause for that is likely the groups heavy drug use, but hey, I'm not complaining... It's adding some much needed diversity to todays bands, many who find their sound and don't experiment much beyond it.

Digitalism: Idealistic

I love listening to KEXP late at night... finding gems like these. They remind me of LCD Soundsystem a little bit.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Maps

Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Maps

This is by far still my favorite Yeah Yeah Yeahs song. It's from their debut full length album, "Fever To Tell". Since that release, I haven't heard much of them, but the other day I heard the tail end of a song off their latest EP "Is Is", and it seemed like they had tightened up their sound a bit.

In any case, for some reason I like this song. Probably because it's pretty simple, but catchy.

As for this video, well, it's a little weird, but I think thats what they were going for. But hey, it's better than the actual video, and it's embeddable.

Atmosphere: Shoulda Known

Atmosphere: Shoulda Known

Off the latest release, "When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold".

Good song. Good video. Good lyrics. Good message.

Erin was the first to expose me to this group, which is Ant (beats) and Slug (lyrics). I think I opened up to them because of the style in which Slug writes and performs... His style incorporates real life experiences about day to day shit in a way that isn't done anywhere else.

Hammock: Overcast-Sorrow

Hammock: Overcast-Sorrow

This band grows on me every time I listen to them. They are another band that I enjoy listening to late at night when I'm not really doing much... It's just a great background music that really comes to life when you realize what you're listening to...

Feist: I Feel It All

Feist: I Feel It All

Feist was just another independent artist going through the motions trying to make it. She caught her break when Apple picked up one of her songs for their new iPod commercials. Since then it's been a completely different story. Her career has taken off.

I absolutely love single shot music videos. I think they are way more impressive and much harder to complete than your typical production.

Dosh: Call the Kettle Back

Dosh: Call the Kettle Back

This is another artist I originally discovered while listening to late night KEXP programming.

I like how the video shows us how he goes about creating his music...

Tokyo Police Club: Nature of the Experiment

Tokyo Police Club: Nature of the Experiment

I think I heard this song first from some show on fuelTV, which I think is fitting... It sounds like something from a skate/surf/snowboard flick...

I've only heard a few of their other tracks and I have to say this so far is the most impressive.

And speaking of experimenting, I mad some truly awesome experimental brownies today... added a new key ingredient. Turned out better than I thought. That's pretty much all I've got, though...
