Fun. Right?

Some favorite things. Whenever I get around to it...

Sufjan Stevens: Chicago

Sufjan Stevens: Chicago

Sufjan first hit my radar about three years ago when I heard that he was taking on the self challenege to write a complete album for every state... There is still talk about whether or not he'll follow through or not...

I liked some of his stuff from the Michigan album, but nothing really blew me away that I can remember. But, On a whim I went ahead and bought the Illinois album anyway. I bought it about a year after it came out. I should have picked it up much sooner. This is my favorite track from the album. You may recognize it from little miss sunshine...

De La Soul: Break A Dawn

De La Soul: Break A Dawn

De La Soul is one of the original big names of hip hop and huge influence to many of the current big names in the game.

My friend Erin wrote a list of all the great albums to get you hooked on hip hop, but I can't find that anywhere. I need to get a hold of that again...

Salif Keita: Madan

Salif Keita: Madan

I was just listening to KEXP's Best Ambiance and a song by Salif came on. I realized I hadn't shown any world music in a long while, so here we are...

On Youtube, it says that this is a remix of some kind, but I can't be certain...

On to the video... I love it! Whats better than a tale told by two fingers drawn on to be people? Can you think of anything? I mean they even had to censor out some of that stuff... hilarious.

Cut Copy: Saturdays

Cut Copy: Saturdays

A day late and a dollar short they say... but really today is my Saturday.. I had to work all day yesterday.

Aussie band that took a strong influence from the 80's. They recently toured with Daft Punk.

I like this video too. I don't think it's official, as there are two directors listed... but in any case, its good work.

The Last Shadow Puppets: The Age Of The Understatement

The Last Shadow Puppets: The Age Of The Understatement

Some more brand new music from domino records, the same label that carries Animal Collective and others...

Hot Chip: Ready For The Floor

Hot Chip: Ready For The Floor

Another hint from Rawb a while ago... I enjoy it.

24 April 2008

Voyager One: Ocean Grey

Voyager One: Ocean Grey

Seattle shoegazer rock group that has a handful of pretty decent tracks. Check out "The Kids Take Control" sometime too.

These guys need to be heard by more people. Yeah, they kinda fit a mold, but I still enjoy them... it's worth a listen and its worth the recognition. I think this video had just over 100 views when I watched it... and that was one of their higher viewed videos...

(by the way, the few of you who check in on this thing probably noticed that I've been kinda slacking lately... this was the longest streak without adding any content... but thanks to the magic of the internet, I'm able to "go back in time" and add content on the days I missed! So check em all out! But again, sorry. I'm gonna try and not let that happen again...)

Grizzly Bear: Shift

Grizzly Bear: Shift

Another video from director Vincent Moon of Paris. Part of his Take-Away show series. I haven't posted one of these in a while, but I still really enjoy them... Haven't gotten bored with them yet.

The acoustics of that bathroom seem to be pretty good...

Los Campesinos: You! Me! Dancing!

Los Campesinos: You! Me! Dancing!

An awesomely animated music video for a pretty upbeat feel-good sing.

I can't dance, but at least you've probably heard me say it...

Nada Surf: Whose Authority?

Nada Surf: Whose Authority?

I saw this video the last time I was in Gig Harbor at my Mom's house. It was on some late night music channel. I never saw the credits for it though, which kinda bummed me out. Then I heard it the other day on KEXP, and instantly remembered the video.

I don't know how the video ties to the lyrics. I didn't really even try to associate it with them when I just watched a minute ago, but its a guy on a fixed gear, and pardon me for jumping on bandwagons, but fixed is fun! Right?

Rawb's Weekend: Day Two: Venetian Snares: Szamár Madár

Venetian Snares: Szamár Madár

Again, I don't remember ever hearing about this group before Rawb showed me this video... SO far, this is the best song of theirs that I've heard, but I still haven't heard many.

I really liked this video. It definitely took some talent to create, as it's all 3D animation. Good work!

19 April 2008

Rawb's Weekend: Day One: Santogold: L.E.S. Artistes

Santogold: L.E.S. Artistes

My good friend Rawb also has a good taste in music, so he gets his own weekend too...

I had never heard of Santogold before. I really enjoyed this song and the video is pretty radical. I really don't know how else to describe it...

18 April 2008

Grandaddy: 180 A.M.

Grandaddy: 180 A.M.

Grandaddy is feel good music. I think Taylor or Erin originally exposed me to them.

17 April 2008

Mirah: Archipelago

Mirah: Archipelago

Nice, soft slow tempo music. Another amateur video, but again, focus on the music!

16 April 2008

The Knife: Heartbeats

The Knife: Heartbeats

I first heard this song as an acoustic cover by Jose Gonzalez last year. I don't think I could decide which version I like better, they are so different.

This band has a handful of great hits. I wouldn't mind catching them live sometime, either...

15 April 2008

Elbow: One Day Like This

Elbow: One Day Like This

Here's some relatively brand new music for you my friends. Again, I don't know much about this band. I know that they are from the UK and again, I know that I like it, but thats about it.

I want one a them condos now...

14 April 2008

M83: Don't Save Us From the Flames

M83: Don't Save Us From the Flames

I don't know much about this band... except that I like them.

Oh and Rawb, this would be one more for the exception list of "all bands with numbers in the name suck". That was accidental actually. But for those keeping tally... thats a total of four bands (buck 65 (posted a while ago, before this topic was brought about), four tet, jurassic 5, and m83) that are an exception to the rule.

Just my opinion, anyway.

13 April 2008

Jurassic 5: Freedom

Jurassic 5: Freedom

One of the best hip-hop groups ever. One of the best hip-hop albums ever. Proof that not all bands with numbers in the name suck... although, like I said... it's pretty much true. think about it.

Hold on to this feelin... freedom!

12 April 2008

Four Tet: Smile Around the Face

Four Tet: Smile Around the Face

A friend of mine has said that any band with a number in their name is bad. This weekend I'll attempt to prove exceptions to that rule... But he is pretty much right.

This video, however, is very good. It shows a different emotion than the original one I always thought of when I heard this song before seeing this, but it works. Both do. This song is very well rounded, in my opinion.

11 April 2008

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: Dig, Lazarus, Dig!

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: Dig, Lazarus, Dig!

Nick Cave has definitely changed his style over the years, but most do. I have to say, I am more of a fan of his earlier music, but I can still dig this...

10 April 2008

Flaming Lips: Free Radicals

Flaming Lips: Free Radicals

This song and video are about greed to me (especially the video). Greed eats up everything. Greed for money, greed for popularity, greed for acceptance, greed to fit in.

So lame that society really is like this...

09 April 2008

Wolfmother: White Unicorn

Wolfmother: White Unicorn

This is a clip from the snowboard film "Draw the Line", which is one of my favorite films. Really clean shots, clean riding, just all around good. I wish I owned it... by the way this is where I first heard wolfmother. I wasn't a huge fan at first, although I liked this track with the rider segment. It grew on me, obviously.

By the way, Jeremy Jones is one of the best big mountain riders you will ever see. If I could handle one of those descents burly alaskan descents, I'd be pretty happy with myself.

08 April 2008

Jim Noir: Eanie Meany

Jim Noir: Eanie Meany

Something about the simplicity of this songs attracts me to it...

I also enjoyed the video; simple effects with playful soccer... what's not to love? I mean really...

07 April 2008

Built To Spill: Goin Against Your Mind

Built To Spill: Goin Against Your Mind

This band is has been a round a lot longer than I was originally aware of. They have had a huge influence on many many many bands that have "made it".

Yet another fan video. They have produced videos, but I liked this song, and I liked the drawing that was created with it, so it made the cut.

06 April 2008

Devendra Banhart: Feel just like a child

Devendra Banhart: Feel just like a child

Sometimes I do just feel like a child...

Devendra Banhart has some very weird music, albeit quite enjoyable. Kinda political, kinda drug influenced, kinda hippie, kinda entirely awesome.

05 April 2008

The Velvet Underground: Rock and Roll

The Velvet Underground: Rock and Roll

I think I discovered my love of this band by accident...

I was downloading music back in the day, and I got bored and ran out of bands and songs to search for, so I just typed in "rock and roll". Boy am I glad I did. That summer, this was the song you could hear me playing constantly. I made everyone listen to them... Good times.

04 April 2008

Wu Tang Clan: Life Changes

Wu Tang Clan: Life Changes

This is a tribute track to the late O.D.B. It's a great song that actually shows emotion and reality as opposed to most mainstream rap...

03 April 2008

Crystal Castles: Trash Hologram

Crystal Castles: Trash Hologram

I don't remember where I heard these guys originally... But it was very recently. I like their style. By the way, I am pretty sure this is another fan video, although I'm not really sure. Also, if you are on any sort of heavy drug, I probably wouldn't watch this if I were you.

02 April 2008

U-Ziq: Goodbye Goodbye

U-Ziq: Goodbye Goodbye

I just heard about this dj. So far I haven't heard anything I didn't like. This is a fan video.

Here is a longer, better fan video of this song. It's embedding ability was disabled.
